About this project

Hi, I’m Cormac Slade Byrd. I’m an independent AI safety researcher, and I started People on AI because of a gap I couldn’t stop thinking about.

Companies are racing to build AI systems far smarter than any human, but almost nobody is asking everyday people what they think about it. The polling that does exist is mostly online surveys filled out by people who already follow tech news. No one has ever gone door-to-door to ask regular people about AI existential risk.

That felt wrong to me. These are decisions that affect everyone, and the people most likely to be affected are the least likely to be heard. So I recruited some pals and we started knocking on doors.

This isn’t backed by a company or a political campaign. It’s a small team of people who care about getting this right. We ask eight questions, it takes about two minutes, and every response is completely anonymous. We’re doing this because we think your opinion matters. The people building these systems should have to hear from you.

When we’re done, we’ll publish the full results here so everyone can see what their neighbors actually think.
